Advanced Warning

Expect some news soon… As soon as Andrea, Travis and I find a couch for our new house we will have a housewarming party and I will have a cheese plate from a fancy cheese shop. Oh yes… oh heck yes.

Bothwell Green Peppercorn

I really liked this cheese but wouldn't reccommend eating a whole block of it. Not because it would turn your stomach into a sore balloon like brie or some of the creamier cheeses, but because it starts to taste bland after a few bites. As a spicy addition to a plate of cheeses with lots of variety in terms of flavour the peppers in this cheese would add a welcomed sobriety. Definitely worth checking out for a little snack.

Cambozola

New Year’s Eve. I bought this Cambozola to bring to derek’s and then ate it at home while getting ready… Oooooops. It was very tasty! Creamy and buttery and salty, similar to brie. We went to derek’s and I brought a smoked gouda that was tasty. Andrea also bought a smoked gouda but I forgot it, so I’ll have to eat it today!

An excellent night for cheese at Andrea and Mark's Xmas party!

We had several varieties of cheese. I was in heaven. Particularly because Mark offered up three very fine, fancy cheeses that he had bought to celebrate a transition. I purchased a three year old gouda and a smoked gruyere. Sam and Jason brought two kind of brie because they knew how much Carly like cheese (kindred spirit!). I particularly enjoyed the gouda. It had a texture reminiscent of parmasean and a very provacative deep colouring. I was surprised that it had a sharp bite to it, but not sharp like an old cheddar, more like the citrusy tang of parmasean. Very tasty! The three cheeses Mark provided were delicious too but we can't remember their names... I know they were french... Two were creamy, similar in texture to brie or camembert, though one had a strong sharp tang to it that was quite invigorating. The effect of its taste was similar to that of the taste of coriander in that they both open up the airways with a very fresh, crisp flavour. Not pictured is yet another cheese delicacy that Andrea's mom made for the party. It was a delicious cheese cheesecake! It had parmasean, gruyere, and cream cheese all melted together then baked into a quiche-like crust... The cheese on top was browned and sweet... I can't begin to describe how great it tasted. I would eat a bit of it everyday if I could.

Wensleydale - Not so good...

Maybe I need to stop buying cheese from the local supermarket and start shelling out a bit more for fancy cheese. The wensleydale that I just bought today is disgusting. It has a very tart taste with a hint of citrus and a texture like paper. I am not happy. Look at it. It's disgusting!

Sage Derby Cheese

I thought this was going to be a variation of blue cheese but it turns out the green marbling is due to the fact that the cheese has sage in it! So good. I also bought a parmesan. I love parmesan cheese.
